Paul Ellis (Chair) Cassandra Ellis
Vicki Niederhofer Matt Jones
Eric Schauster Cindy Layman
Paul Ellis called the meeting to order at 1:31PM. After a brief discussion led by Eric Schauster regarding some personnel changes at the City of Belleville, Paul welcomed Cassandra Ellis, Youth Compliance Monitor, to the committee. Cassandra will be working on youth outreach through social media, etc. and her efforts will blend with the committee’s outreach and marketing plan. With no public comment, Paul presented the July 14th minutes for review. Eric made a motion to approve, it was seconded by Lee Reese and the minutes were unanimously approved. Paul proceeded to give an update on the committee’s marketing plan, which is designed to promote services throughout EDR while matching goals with available programs and resources. He and Matt Jones are also still working with SIUE to secure a marketing intern by this fall. Next, Paul referenced an updated attachment that was sent out to the committee that listed many of the economic development contacts throughout the region and he suggested a future Zoom presentation about WIOA services to this group, probably late October or first week of November. This would coincide well with Lee’s upcoming manufacturing and apprenticeship events.
Next continuing with updates on activities, events and news, Eric reported that Cliff Cross is the new Director of Economic Development, Planning & Zoning for the City of Belleville. He suggested introducing Mr. Cross at the next committee meeting. He also stated that the Lofts on The Square are open and that the city has also purchased the Lindenwood University property. Paul gave an update on the Metro-East Business Incubator (MEBI) as well as some other business-related activities in Fairview Heights. Matt reported on a variety of topics including the Apprenticeship Expansion Grants and the recent Jobs Plus Job Fair. Lee stated that Belleville 201 just closed on their new building at King’s Point, which will serve as CTE training center. He also added that Terra Source Global was recently nominated for national recognition through the National Association of Workforce Boards (NAWB). In closing the updates, Cindy Layman informed the group that she is in Leadership Belleville and also she has a new Business Services Representative, Bonnie Forker, who started on August 16th.
After a few more topics of discussion, Matt reminded the group that the next MAWIB meeting will be held on October 14th @ 8:30 AM via Zoom. With no further discussion, the meeting was adjourned at 2:01PM
