At our One-Stop Centers, you can gain access to a wide range of services. These are available for job seekers, families, and other groups in our community.

Career Planning Services

Mapping your future is made easier with our career planning initiatives. We’ll help you find the right path with the following services:

  • Information on areas like:

  • Training and Employment Services

  • Occupations of the Future
  • Wage Rates
  • Career exploration and counseling (We have a resource room that has a comprehensive library of learning materials and a staff that’s ready to assist.)
  • Complete skills and aptitude assessment
  • Development of individual employment plans
  • Coordination and assistance for community college registration
  • Access to youth programs (Hire the Future, Job Corp, WIOA)
  • Assistance with scholarship search

Job Search and Placement Services

Once you’ve determined the career you want to take, the next step is to find a job position that suits your skills and plans. We can help by providing:

  • Access to job listings
  • Referrals to jobs through Illinois Skills Match
  • Assistance in developing resumes, cover letters, and interviewing skills
  • Personalized re-employment services for veterans
  • Job search workshops and training
  • Information on current wage rates and job market statistics
  • Information on Child Labor Law

Training

Through our training programs, you will gain new skills and knowledge about a wide range of topics. You’re welcome to join the following:

  • Academic, Vocational, and On-the-Job Training
  • Occupational Skills Classroom Training
  • Basic Skills Training
  • GED Test Preparation
  • Job Readiness Training

Kid Care

MAWIB offers Kid Care programs for those under 19 as well as their families. These are created to help reduce or eliminate expenses for medical procedures and services.

Parent/Kid Care Assist

This program offers free medical coverage to children and adults with kids under 19.

Kid Care Mom and Babies

Through this program, pregnant women and babies can get free medical coverage.

Kid Care Share

For this option, medical coverage to children is provided but co-payment and premium payments are applied.

Kid Care Rebate

Through the Kid Care Rebate program, families can reimburse a portion of the paid insurance premium for their children who already have health insurance.

Parent/Kid Care Assist Spend Down

Children and adults with kids under age 19 can get free medical coverage under this program once spend down is met. Only those who weren’t eligible for other options can qualify for the Parent/Kid Care Assist Spend Down program.

Other Services

Aside from workforce and employment programs, our center offers services that let you take advantage of our resources and network. These include the following:

  • Access to Resource Room (With Phones, Fax, Copier, and Computers)
  • Support Services (Transportation, Childcare, Housing, and Medical)
  • Information and assistance for filing of claims of unemployment compensation
  • Assistance for unemployment insurance forms and reporting

Community Services

We also offer services and programs through the Illinois Department of Human Services, Division of Health Services, and other organizations. All these help in creating healthy and robust communities in the counties we serve.

Women, Infants, and Children Program

Through our center’s Women, Infants, and Children Program, vulnerable groups can gain access to the following:

  • Teen Parent Services
  • Partners for Hope Program
  • Rehabilitation Services
  • Domestic Violence Services
  • Mental Health and Developmental/Disability Services
  • Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment
  • Welfare for Work Providers

Conditions for Coverage

The level of coverage for these programs is dependent on several factors, including the income of the claimant. This will be determined during the application process. For your convenience, all of these can be processed at our One-Stop Centers.

Once your skills assessment is done, we’ll help you find the ideal job. We will conduct another evaluation and give you access to Career Connections, an online program that partners you with Southwestern Illinois College staff working at our One-Stop Centers.

Your Informative Guide to Creating a Good Resume

A resume serves as your sales pitch to potential employers. That’s why you need to make sure that it grabs and holds their attention if you want to be part of their workforce. With it, you can prove that you’re the best candidate for the position and showcase what you can do for the company. Let them know that you deserve an interview where you can tell them the benefits of hiring you.

Helpful Tips

MAWIB has comprehensive resume resources available through our One-Stop Centers. We have shared some of the basics of resume writing so that you’ll know the most important information to add to the document.

Common Sections of a Resume

The most essential part of the document is your contact details. Be sure to include your name, address, phone number, and email address.

A profile is a summary of your skills. For those who do not have in-depth skills for the position they want, you can add a job objective. This will say what you can contribute to the company you’re applying for.

Make sure to add your educational background, as it can help improve your credibility. Be sure to include your past school, its location, the years you were enrolled, and the degree program you took. Add it before or after the experiences section, depending on your level of experience.

Your experience or work history details what you did in previous jobs. Include the dates, company name, your job title, and the duties you performed.

This section allows you to showcase specific skills and training that are relevant to your position, especially if your work history doesn’t match the vacancy you’re applying for. You can also add other skills like foreign languages, hobbies, and technical knowledge.

Features of a Good Resume

Your resume must only have a few words and should not exceed more than one page. The only exception is if your extensive experience is needed to qualify for the job. So don’t include information that isn’t relevant to the position, such as marital status, religion, and race.

A good resume is an honest resume. So don’t exaggerate any skills or accomplishments, as the facts will come out in the interview and hurt your chances of getting the position.

You can catch and hold the attention of a recruiter if your resume is attractive. So aside from the content, you should consider a good layout for the document. Be sure to add contrasting fonts, bullet points, and other elements that make the resume appealing. Avoid any typos and irregular spacing on the text, and print it on high-quality paper. You can use white or beige colored paper placed in a fine envelope.

Cover Letter Tips

Your cover letter serves as an introduction to your resume and helps make a great initial impression. We’ve shared the important parts of this document so you can reference it when creating one:

  • Your address
  • Date
  • The name and address of the person or organization receiving the cover letter and resume
  • Greeting
  • A paragraph that briefly explains why you are writing the letter
  • A paragraph that summarizes how your skills are applicable for the position and how they will benefit the company
  • A final paragraph asking for a reply to your letter or an invite for an interview
  • A closing remark such as “Sincerely”
  • Your name and some space above it where you can sign

Jumpstart Your Career With Our Training Programs

Gain new skills and improve your chances of getting a new or better job by attending MAWIB’s programs. Through these initiatives, we can talk about your employment needs and address issues that make working difficult. Aside from starting conversations, we offer opportunities that open doors to new careers through our One-Stop Centers. Enroll in these training sessions today.

Apprenticeship Program

There are many apprenticeship occupations available in the region. To qualify for these positions, you can join one of our programs and build skills for a particular trade. Visit one of our centers today for more details and to learn about eligibility requirements.

Hire the Future

Our Hire the Future program is designed for the youth. We welcome those who are between 16 to 22 years old and have a C-grade point average. They must have a good attendance record in finding employment opportunities during the past summer.

Through the program, qualified youths will get a chance to work in various industries and environments. The experience will allow them to choose the professionals that they like best for their future.
